Hi, there! My name is Lynette.
But most know me as Flapjack & Bird’s Mom. I have the pleasure of being the primary caretaker of the foster kittens you see on this site. My spouse, Shea, will make an appearance from time to time as he is a master kitten socializer.
Why “Talullah Bird’s Charm School”?
This is the silly name we’ve given our fostering. The last step of socialization before adoption is hanging out with our resident cat, Talullah (aka Bird), to learn proper cat etiquette. Talullah is featured on my sweatshirt and is indeed the queen of RBF (Resting Bird Face).
How long have you been fostering?
I got serious about fostering in Southern California in Summer 2019, but my first litter was back in 2012. We moved to Seattle in early 2020, which is where we currently foster. I am, by no means, an expert in kitten care but have picked up some knowledge and experience dealing with weaning, upper respiratory infections, tummy troubles, and post-op care following spay and neuter surgery. I partner closely with rescue organizations to ensure kittens have access to the veterinary care they need while in our foster care.
Do you foster kittens full-time?
By day, I am a marketing manager and Shea is a product designer. Since we have full-time desk jobs we often foster kittens from 4 weeks of age to 8 weeks of age, when they’re ready for adoption.
How do adoptions work?
We partner with local rescues in the Seattle area, so our adoption applications and processes go through their organizations. When you click a button on this site to complete an adoption application you are being routed through whichever organization the kitten is coming to us from. If selected by the organization, there is typically an adoption agreement and an adoption fee to help cover the cost of their spay/neuter and vaccines.
How can I support the foster kittens?
If you’d like to help us feed foster kittens and keep them comfy, please check out our wishlist. If fanny packs, leggings, and stickers are more your thing you can purchase an item from our online store, flapjacknbird.com. Profits from the online store help us continue our foster work and you’ll get some cute cat items. Thank you for your support!
Want to learn more about the importance of fostering?
Check out this video interview we did as part of Royal Canin’s Catology education series (below). In this interview we talk about our resident cats, Flapjack and Bird, and how our lives wouldn’t be the same without rescue organizations that provide foster care for kittens like them.
